The Loan Process
Please completely fill out the online HFLA Loan Application to the best of your ability by choosing “Apply Online” below.
Once you submit the application, you will be contacted within a few business days by a representative of HFLA in order to review your application with you and to complete our pre-loan interview.
If you wish to have an in-person interview, please visit us during HFLA open hours on Thursday nights between 7:00pm and 8:00pm.

Even with an assessed reduction in tuition, the local private school that could best service Devorah were beyond their capabilities. With the help of HFLA, Devorah’s parents were able to secure an education loan so their daughter could attend this school that would best meet her needs.
Loan Information
The process to apply for an interest free loan includes:
Submitting an application
Meeting with (one or two) members of the HFLA board of directors
Providing driver’s license information
Presenting cosigners (if applicable)
Signing a promissory note
HFLA personal loan applicant must meet the following eligibility requirements:
Be Jewish
Be at least 18 years old
Reside in the Greater Baltimore area
Have a legitimate need for the loan
Demonstrate the ability to pay the loan back within the time-frame established by the HFLA
Cosigner Requirements
HFLA personal loans often require cosigners. An HFLA cosigner (which is technically a co-maker of the note) needs to be a property owner in the greater Baltimore area.
Some exceptions may apply.
Loan Requirements
Monthly payments on HFLA personal loans start approximately 30 days after the loan is issued. Payment terms are discussed and finalized during the loan interview with HFLA board members. Loan payments may be made by check, by cash or money order delivered directly to the Hebrew Free Loan office, or online via PayPal.
Confidentiality
The HFLA does not disclose your personal information to anyone, except as permitted by law and/or as authorized by you. We continue to adhere to this privacy policy after your loan account has been closed. However, the HFLA may discuss your loan payments with your cosigners at any time. All members of HFLA board of directors are also bound by this confidentiality policy.
